U.S. Embassy in Yemen Closed
The U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, is closed for security reasons at the present time. Many of the staff have left the country voluntarily. This post anticipates processing only American citizens' services on a limited basis for at least the balance of November 2001. Depending on staffing and political circumstances, it will try to begin limited immigrant and nonimmigrant visa processing in December. Practitioners should therefore contact this post and plan an alternate strategy in advance concerning upcoming appointments, if possible, to assist their clients. This consulate is under the State Department's Middle East Bureau. It is investigating whether it would be possible to transfer any time sensitive age out cases to other posts in the bureau. Those locations are: Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Djibuti.
