F-1 Student Visa

An F-1 student visa may be available to foreign students pursuing education in the U.S., who are admitted for a full-time course of study (with some exceptions) by a U.S. university or college. Less frequently, student visas are issued to young children to attend private schools in the United States. Special care should be taken in order not to violate student status: students should consult an attorney and a designated school official regarding work authorization, availability of practical training and maintenance or change of their current immigrant status.

Students interested in working in the US after graduation or in immigrating to this country should start planning their immigration strategies as early as possible. For many foreign graduates, we recommend taking a one-year practical training option after graduation. That allows many graduates find an employer who may be interested in sponsoring their H-1B visas and green cards.

Attorney Mira Mdivani assists students by providing private consultations and working on their non-immigrant and immigrant visas. She also gives presentations to students in workshops organized by International Students Departments at colleges and universities. She may be reached at (913) 317-6200
